We know finding and booking campsites can sometimes be extremely difficult. So, we decided to round up our 7 favorite places to find campsites. These sites are perfect for the early planner and even those of you who like to book last minute. We hope this list helps fuel your next adventure!

Campendium

Campendium is a really wonderful place to search for campsites of all kinds! Their website is divided into RV Parks, Free Camping, National Parks, National Forests and State Parks. From there, you can choose which state you’re looking in and scroll through their interactive map. We really love Campendium because they also have a resourceful blog outlining best campsites, favorite camping gear and more.

The Dyrt

The Dyrt is great for campers of all kinds. They have a free and pro option for finding campsites or being a part of their community. The reviews provided on the dyrt are extremely helpful! On their pro version, you have the ability to plan your entire trip based on campgrounds and fuel stops, then export the entire route to google maps (it’s free for the first 7 days). If you don’t know where you want to go, you can work off one of their recommendations.

Hip Camp

We use Hip Camp often! It’s our go-to when we’re thinking about camping on private land (hello COVID), and often recommend many Hip Camps on our road trip itineraries. We like to think of this as the Airbnb of camp sites. People rent out their private land in beautiful places for people to stay. Not only can you book a camping stay, but you can also find cabins, yurts, and epic experience based adventures through the site. Use the advanced filters while searching to find just what you need.

Free Roam

Free Roam is a wonderful place for finding spots to boondock. This website and app has a great community feature where you can search forums and chat with other campers like you. Create your trip on their dashboards and check out the guides to find everything you may need to experience the best van life trip.

iOverlander

iOverlander is a non-profit organization supporting epic explorations. Users find and submit camping/overlanding information that would be relevant for others. You can actually browse the map to find locations throughout the world! iOverlander is extremely helpful for informal campgrounds and wild camping. If you need something last minute, we highly recommend using this resource.

Freecampsites.net

Free campsites can sometimes be hard to find, but this website is extremely useful. They focus on public lands (Forest Service land, Bureau of Land Management areas, Wildlife Management Areas and county or city parks) - land you own and are entitled to use if you respect the space. It’s community driven, and relies heavily on submissions from individuals. With that, it’s often changing and updating, so bookmark their website and come back often!

National & State Campgrounds

You can always book National and State campgrounds, some of which are the most beautiful we’ve seen! They do often get booked out far in advance, so if you’re planning last minute these aren’t always going to be your best resource. Drop-in spaces are often available depending on space.

And there you have it … all of our favorite places to find and book campsites! Now it’s time to hit the road. Do you know of other great resources to find campsites? Comment below or let us know on social!
